Everyone (unless they have been living under a rock for the last decade or so), knows about the story of Harry Potter. The books have come out on the best sellers list, the movies have been made about the books and there are even video games to entertain the fans of all ages.
But did you know that Harry Potter inspired a new genre of music? Known as Wizard rock or WRock by the fans, these songs and their composers are not so much “professional” but they make money doing what they love to do. Singing about Harry Potter, his friends, his troubles and more, these composers, musicians and bands seem to make the fans very happy with their abilities to make up funny lyrics and a tune that goes with it.
The most famous of these bands are without a doubt, Harry and the Potters. Their hit songs and some of the fan favorites include “Wizards Chess.”, “Save Ginny Weasley” and “The Weapon.” these songs not only retell the stories of Harry, his allies and his foes these songs also reinforces the important moral lessons in the books. Such lessons include Love is stronger than any evil that could try and destroy people; school is hard but necessary, anything can be done with friends and allies and so much more.
Other bands came after the creation of Harry and the Potters including but not limited to Draco and the Malfoys, the Moaning Myrtle, Swish and Flick and so much more. For more information about the genre, the bands and their music visit www.wrock.org
I personally grew up on Harry and the Potters and other Wrock songs. They reinforced the values of loyalty, friendship and dedication when I was younger as well as teaching me English. I also learned to love singing. I fell in love with the songs because of their creativity, quality and because they were unlike any other songs I’d ever heard before. So, I’m sure any other Harry Potter fan will fall in love with it too.
