I think it’s absolutely ridiculous what the advertisers will do to sell products without caring or noticing that these ads might have damaging effects. The ads that were shown on the film just devalued and dehumanized women and they were doing the same thing to men (although at a lesser degree). The problem didn’t stop there as the woman mentioned the idea of violence in the ads as well as bondage. I think it’s just not right that advertisers think that this is right, there should be some kind of censuring on these kinds of things. Freedom of speech and press fine but I think supported by the American Psychological Association, I think it’s clear that something needs to be done and quickly.
The problem with men and ad the fact that they were again, aiding to get the idea that the male’s famine emotions and values such as compassion, empathy etc should be repressed, that’s asking for violence. I don’t condone it and it’s not right. I think there is more violence because of these ads and it’s very bad that it keeps going like this.
The last thing I have to touch on is the idea of a perfect body that are being introduced to children. I have seen it over and over again even from a young age what we are taught to look like, to be like and how far the ads will go to project what we are supposed to look like, I think the idea that the advertisers plant in the minds of kids even as young teens and older teens is absolutely insane, they plant the idea that looks is everything and that nothing else matters. There could be so many things these people could be focusing on rather than looks and it’s sad to see that girls actually try and get themselves to have a perfect body by starvation, excessive diet etc.
